Spotlight: Ruth Murphy


Ruth Murphy has been with the Department of State for over 15 years. She currently serves as a Management and Program Analyst in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs. In this role, she manages a budget of over $10 million dollars annually and oversees the implementation of large-scale contracts for the Office of Contact Relationship Management (CRM). Ruth also serves as CRM’s liaison to the Department’s Office of Diplomatic Security and the Office of Acquisitions. Her contributions to strategic engagement around complex and sensitive issues has resulted in revised policies around security clearances.

Prior to joining GPA, Ruth served as Senior Advisor for Special Projects and Events for S/GAC (the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator). There she collaborated on special projects with interagency colleagues, chaired USG working groups and coordinated high-visibility events around the world.

Ruth is a member of several of the Department’s Employee Affinity Groups. She is Civil Service VP for Thursday Luncheon Group (TLG) and Executive Women at State (EW@S), and also serves on her Bureau’s Diversity Forum. Ruth holds a bachelor's degree in Health Services Management and a master's in Communications and Public Relations. In her spare time Ruth enjoys riding her bike, reading and traveling with family and friends.
